(A)Part
March 26 - August 28, 2027
(A)Part is an exhibition with strong contrasts. When you encounter an uncanny, alienating, or unnerving image, you might begin to feel off. Something is not right in this image. What is going on? Cognitive dissonance—a mental mismatch between two discordant things—might take place. Always eager for patterns and meaning, the mind seeks to make sense of what it perceives. Contrast this experience with viewing an artwork that represents belonging: your mind is at ease when human connection is intact. (A)Part is an exhibition that explores both ideas: what brings us together, and what drives us apart.
(A)Part brings together 21 works of art in painting, sculpture, fiber, new media, installation, and photography to explore the contrasts between psychological distance and closeness, isolation and togetherness. Drawing upon the Cafesjian Art Trust Museum’s founding collection, new acquisitions, and important loans from Art Bridges and other lenders, the exhibition is curated by Jill Ahlberg Yohe, Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art and Linnea Seidling, Assistant Curator of Glass at the Cafesjian Art Trust Museum.
We thank Art Bridges and our other lenders for generously supporting this exhibition.
