Liahona examines the complex relationship Smith and other former members of the Church of Latter-Day Saints (LDS) experience after they leave the church. Shrouded in her worshipping whites—which are only to be worn in church—a young girl stands outside of the church carrying a Liahona, which guides LDS members towards a righteous, chosen path. As the young girl moves towards the church and its enchanted village, Smith presents the tension, awareness, and disenchantment some former members feel about the church and community.
